What was your childhood dream job?

Aug 18, 2022

When I was growing up I wanted to be an architect, a hairdresser, or an actor on the TV soap Neighbours but...

...I ended up in Human Resources, and now a career coach (which I flippin love!).

I know right.  Kinda different things!

But also, not really.

Let me explain...

When you're at a bit of a crossroads and you seek help, most career coaches and recruiters will focus on what you are good at.  Your skills.  Where your experience lies, and...

...what role they think you can actually get.

You end up excited about new opportunities (to get yourself out of your current career rut) but in a year or two, sometimes quicker, you end up at the same place...

...unhappy.

Unfulfilled.

Stuck.

What they don't often focus on is what you'd actually enjoy!

And what I've found to be a more impactful strategy for my clients is using a...

Values-based Career Clarity Strategy

A rock-solid methodology to show you what your key drivers and motivators are in life, and how it relates to the type of career and job that would really spark joy for you...

...plus the work environment you'd thrive in.

My top values are "recognition, "being of service", and "innovation".

When I look back at what I wanted to be when I grew up, on the outset they seem like really different roles.

What does an architect and a hairdresser have in common?

The skills, experience, and education for each of them are vastly different.

BUT, why they all resonated for me, and where the GOLD is, is that they all fulfilled my top values.

As an architect, I could be innovative with designs, help people, and be recognized for the work I do.

As a hairdresser, I could also be innovative with styles, help people feel amazing, and be recognized for the work I do.

As a career coach I certainly can be innovative in the programs I run, help people and be recognized for the work I do.

I thrive in my role, because it aligns to my values.

So, what does this all mean for you, and how can it help?

Well, if you're stuck, at a crossroads or just need some guidance on "what's next" for you and your career, start writing down the common themes of what you enjoy - what really gets you out of bed.

You want to find your key drivers and motivators, so you can turn them into a powerful career strategy.

I'd love to hear what you come up with!
