The Windscreen Wiper Career Strategy

May 30, 2022

As a Christmas present, I bought my mum tickets to see a musical stage show in Brisbane.

We traveled up from the Gold Coast and had a brilliant time (we saw Dolly Partons "9 to 5" and it was awesome).  I'll share my experience in another email.

On the way home, it was raining.

I mean really raining.

The type of rain that slows you down to 40kms on the freeway because you can't see 5ft in front of you.

I was driving mums car and I noticed her windscreen looked like it was kinda murky.

So I turned on the demister and cranked up the wipers to no avail...

It was like I was looking through a windscreen smeared in vaseline!

I said "mum, when was the last time you changed your wiper blades..."

[crickets]

Yep, it had been years.

She then went on to tell me that she "just got used" to the murky windscreen.

So used to it that she didn't feel the need to do anything about it.

It was "just the way it was".

The next day we took a trip to Autobarn and got a brand spanking new set of wipers blades and she couldn't believe the difference it made to her driving experience (and safety might I add!).

Why am I telling you this random story?

Because it's exactly what happens in your career.

You're in your job you think is "kind of ok" and over the years it slowly turns "murky", just like mum's windscreen but...

... you don't realise it as it happens over time.

You end up thinking it's normal to not enjoy your job (or be exhausted by it!).

It's ok to put up with a manager who isn't supportive....

It's ok to be declined for a pay increase (again)...

But it doesn't have to be that way.

When I work with women inside my Career Accelerator Program I give them a career clarity strategy that is so simple to implement it blows their minds...

...think of it like new wiper blades for your "career eyes" so you can see so clearly the road ahead and what is going to light you up.

If that sounds like something that would make a difference in your life and career right now, then come and join me in the program!
