The BIGGEST Goal Planning Mistake To Avoid

Aug 18, 2022

Did you have a goal for 2022 but...

...it has kind of slipped away from you?

And now you're beating yourself up and feeling all guilty because you promised yourself this time you would totally work on that goal?

I have good news for you.

Achieving your goal is still possible this year!

You could even ditch the old one and create a brand new one!

Here's the thing though...

...creating a great goal is one thing, but actually making it happen is another.

And making it happen is where the magic is.

And successful people know how to make the magic happen.

Lots of coaches will ask you to set a SMART goal.  You've probably been taught this at work too.

It's useful for sure, but it's not where the magic happens.

Sound like you?

You plan out the goal.  You get specific.  It's actionable, and you even put a timeline to it but...

...you don't achieve the goal.  Another year passes by...

The biggest mistake I see people make is not in the creation of the goal itself but in the implementation.

There's no structure, no accountability, and no way to overcome potential roadblocks.

So let's use a different way to approach your goal and start by asking yourself these questions:

  1. What do I want to achieve for the remainder of the year?
  2. What will be my measurement of success?
  3. What is an excuse or roadblock that will stop me from getting there?
  4. What strategy will I use to overcome these roadblocks?
  5. What are 3 critical steps can I take this week?
  6. What resources might I need to make the goal happen?
  7. Who in my network could help me make it happen faster?

Numbers 3 & 4 are THE most important, hence why I highlighted it...

...because it is mostly our own excuses and limiting beliefs that get in the way of not only achieving a goal but creating one in the first place.

I see it every day. Great goals, crappy execution.

But it's REALLY damn hard to know where your own excuses and limiting beliefs are hiding...

...usually, they are being masked by stuff that feels out of your control such as lack of time, not feeling ready, lack of confidence, or experience, money, education, etc.

But your goals are possible for you.

(yes, even you!).
