My Blind Date Career Analogy

I met my husband before internet dating was a big thing.
It was at a time when owning a Blackberry phone was super cool (it had email on it!) and the iPhone didn't exist yet. We were set up on a blind date through a friend and the only way I could get a visual of him prior to the date was from a photo she printed out for me on her work computer.
I said I would never date a footy player. He said he wouldn't date a musician. And here we both were, opposites, eating pizza at Docklands like we'd known each other for ages. The conversation flowed so easily. But why? Because when we spoke about what was important and how we wanted our future to be, it was clear we shared the same values and goals.
It didn't matter that we were such different people. Or came from completely different backgrounds. At the end of the date, we were both on a train ride home in opposite directions (I was inner north-west and he was outer east) but we both texted each other asking when we could see each other again. Lovely story Em...how does this relate to my career?
Here's how:
When I look at all the jobs I've had where I've really loved where I've worked; where I've been invested in the team or the cause or the product and I've thrived...
...it's because there was total values alignment. Just like that first date.
The companies and leaders I worked for were different to me, had different skills to me, to be honest, mostly opposite in personality to me, but they hired me because they knew I was aligned with their core purpose and how they operated. And so we all thrived.
And that's what I want for every woman in their career. No kidding!
