Big Girls Don't Cry [by a rejected resume]

Jul 13, 2022

Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas said it so simply in her song "big girls don't cry" but...

...I had a resume that was getting zero replies.

So of course I wanted to cry!

In was 2006 and I had some experience in administration, just not the exact experience that was listed in the job advertisement that I was applying for. Gosh, I found the whole experience so frustrating. Finding a really cool role and getting excited about it. Spending hours and hours and hours tweaking and refining it. Hitting the "submit" button followed by checking my inbox every few hours just in case they replied.

Then... nada.  I heard NOTHING back from the recruiter. Damn.  Bugger. "insert cry face". And then the whole process would start again.

But here's the thing...

Back then, I had no idea why I wasn't getting callbacks. I really thought my resume was pretty good so it must clearly be me that wasn't good enough.  They didn't want me in their business. Insert cry face again. However, that wasn't actually the case. I learned many years later that it wasn't me or my experience that was the problem..

...it was that I wasn't writing my resume in a way that sparked the interest of the recruiter.

I wasn't talking their language which meant they couldn't see potential in me. But once I learned how to "talk their language", I got callbacks on everything I applied for!

My confidence skyrocketed and...

...I had a choice of jobs to apply for.  It was fantastic. And now I teach women exactly how to write and tweak their resumes (super easily) so they start getting callbacks for jobs.

Cool huh?

So, if you'd like your confidence back when applying for roles, and you want your resume to start working then I'd love to help you.
