My cringeworthy Christmas...

Jan 16, 2024

Our “Monday Mindset” is typically dedicated to you starting the week with the right mindset to tackle your goals, but let’s face it, sometimes it’s hard to shake what happened the week before.

For me, it was my hilariously awful Christmas break.

Last year I shared I had a bad run… My family  received terrible news about my mother (that she has cancer), my husband dislocated (it actually turned out broken) his finger, and on top of a series of illnesses, our car caught on fire.

So, we were due for some luck, right?

Well… it all started Christmas Eve, when your kids should be excited that Santa is coming with lots of presents.

Instead, both my 4 and 2 year old had gastro and were up all night vomiting.

Our poor 4 year old was face down in the shower at 6am when I went in to ask him if Santa had arrived – he’d totally forgotten, he lifted his head and said… “I hope so”.

The day wasn’t too bad, but during Christmas night we were hit in South East Queensland with a big storm that turned out to be a tornado. Trees came down around us (luckily not on our house) but the power was cut.

It was the middle of a heat wave; we had no power or water and then my hubby got the dreaded gut bug…

Add a heat wave, no fan, no aircon, no TV and cranky kids, he looked like roadkill (I say this with love, he didn’t look good).

The heat wave was followed by flooding… 500mm of rain in 48 hours.

I have to say, we fared much better than many others (we still had a roof on the house) but we were happy when 1st January came around and we could turn a new page.

Let’s face it, there are things we can’t control, but there is plenty we can.  Such a cliche – but an important mindset for when things don’t go to plan.

What I learned was by taking control in the right areas, starting with me getting clarity on what really sparks joy for me, what makes me most content, satisfied and happy.

I ended up taking an extra week off to get this mindset really locked in.

Yes, Christmas was unforgettable for all the wrong reasons but I am super excited for this year.

Bring on 2024.

So if you’re reading this and you’re a little “blah” about starting the year.  You’re not feeling excited.  This is a hint that you haven’t  yet found your passion for this year.

Keep reading, let’s get that under way for you today!
