It’s time to create a mini support network in your own professional life!
Here are the steps:
- Think of someone in your network who YOU could be the support network for
- Send them a message or calendar invite, and invite them for coffee
- Ask genuine and thoughtful questions:
- What are you working on?
- What are you struggling with?
- What do your really want from this job?
- How can I help?
Here’s the best bit - it doesn’t have to be someone junior to you. This can be done with anyone in your network who you’d love a better connection with, or someone you noticed is struggling.
It’s really about getting interested in them and giving them space to talk freely, without agenda.
Works wonders with your manager, or your managers manager (hello “managing up” well!) as they’re often without much of a network of their own.
